We are an established insurance defense law firm operating across Florida with multiple
offices across Florida. Our practice serves regional and national insurance carriers,
providing litigation defense across a broad range of lines. We operate with a lean, performance-driven culture where administrative leadership has direct impact on firm
economics and attorney effectiveness.
We are seeking an experienced Director of Human Resources to serve as the firm's
senior HR leader. This is a highly visible, hands-on role reporting directly to the
Managing Partner. The right candidate will bring both operational discipline and
strategic perspective, capable of managing the full HR and benefits function while
serving as a trusted advisor to firm leadership on workforce, compliance, and
organizational matters.
This role is ideal for an HR professional who thrives in a professional services
environment, understands the unique dynamics of a law firm, and wants to own a
function rather than execute tasks.
Human Capital and Talent
• Lead full-cycle recruiting from sourcing through onboarding, including attorneys,
paralegals, and professional staff.
• Manage employee relations with sound judgment: investigations, disciplinary
processes, and conflict resolution.
• Develop and maintain firm policies and employee handbook; ensure consistent
application across offices.
• Partner with firm leadership on workforce planning, retention, and performance
management.
Benefits Administration
• Serve as primary point of contact for all firm insurance programs: employee
health plan, professional liability, general liability, cyber, EPLI, workers'
compensation, business policy, and key person/partner life and disability.
• Manage vendor and broker relationships; lead annual open enrollment.
• Report benefit program performance and cost trends to the Executive
Committee.
Compliance and Regulatory
• Ensure firm-wide compliance with federal, state, and local employment law and
regulatory requirements including DOL, ACA, FMLA, MWR, and unemployment.
• Oversee workers' compensation claims administration and reporting.
• Maintain current knowledge of Florida employment law and insurance defense
industry-specific HR considerations.
ERISA and Retirement Plan Oversight
• Administer the firm's 401(k) plan end-to-end: contributions, annual audit, Form
5500 filings, and ERISA compliance.
• Evaluate recordkeepers and plan design periodically to ensure a competitive
offering.
• Liaise with recordkeepers, financial advisors, and the firm's investment
committee; serve as primary participant resource.
Required
• 10+ years of progressive HR experience, with demonstrated responsibility across
HR generalist and benefits functions.
• Prior experience in a law firm, professional services, or similarly structured
environment strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of ERISA, ACA, FMLA, and multi-state compliance
requirements.
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related
field.
Preferred
• PHR, SPHR, or SHRM-CP/SCP certification.
• Direct experience managing 401(k) plan administration and annual audits.
• Familiarity with Florida-specific employment law and regulatory requirements.
• Experience managing HR across multiple office locations.
Beyond credentials, we are looking for someone who:
• Operates with a high degree of discretion; this role handles sensitive personnel
and financial information daily.
• Can work independently and make sound decisions without escalating every
issue.
• Communicates clearly and confidently with partners and leadership, not just staff.
• Brings a continuous improvement mindset and identifies inefficiencies and acts
on them.
• Understands that in a law firm, HR exists to support attorney productivity and firm
performance.
Competitive base salary commensurate with experience (range discussed with
qualified candidates).
• Participation in firm benefits programs including health insurance, 401(k), and
paid time off.
• Stable, collegial firm environment with direct leadership access.
Reports directly to the Managing Partner. Works collaboratively with the Executive
Committee on firm-wide initiatives.
